The Renewable Heat Incentive

The Renewable Heat Incentive

The Renewable Heat Incentive is a scheme which aims to encourage property owners to install low carbon and renewable heating systems in domestic and commercial properties. We are MCS accredited to install a range of renewable technologies which will be eligible for the Renewable Heat Incentive including solar thermal water heating systems, air source heat pumps and biomass boilers.

The scheme will fully launch in summer 2013 for domestic customers, however there is currently a grant scheme in place known as the Renewable Heat Incentive Premium Payment (RHPP). This offers a payment to any property owner installing a renewable heating technology, depending on what renewable technology is installed.

All Houses Houses not heated by gas from the grid
£300 – solar thermal – voucher valid for 3 months £950 – biomass boiler – voucher valid for 6 months
  £850 – air source heat pump – voucher valid for 5 months
  £1250 – ground source or water source heat pump – voucher valid for 6 months

The RHPP is available until March 2013 so we are encouraging anyone looking at having a renewable heating system installed to do it sooner rather than later to be eligible to receive this payment. If you are in a gas mains area you may not be eligible for the RHPP but you will however still be able to benefit from the RHI when it launches in summer 2013.

The Proposed Renewable Heat Incentive Tariffs

The renewable technologies which are covered under the scheme and the tariff payments they are eligible for are: are lise

Air source heat pumps:  6.9-11.5p/kWh;

Biomass boilers: 5.2-8.7p/kWh

Ground source heat pumps: 12.5-17.3p/kWh

Solar thermal technologies: 17.3p/kWh.

If you are looking at having a biomass boiler installed for example, it really is worth considering getting it done before March 2012 to be eligible for the RHPP grant. We are qualifed and accredited to carry out biomass boiler installation and our heating engineers would be happy to talk you through any biomass project you might be considering.

The rules for commercial installations are different from residential systems - Non Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive
