Solar Thermal Water Heating

Solar Thermal water heating uses the heat from the sun to heat water for your home. A solar thermal water heating system will provide up to 70% of your properties hot water, will save you money on your energy bills and provide you with an attractive return on investment through the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).

The Greener Group solar thermal team provide design, supply and installation of solar thermal panels and evacuated tubes with on-going service and support. We are accredited to the government backed Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). We will also give support when applying for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) associated RHPP grants available until .

Solar Thermal Water Heating Provides Hot Water For Your Home

Solar thermal water heating can provide up to 70% of your water heating requirements over a year. Solar thermal systems work by collecting heat directly from the sun through either a flat plate or evacuated tube collector normally located on a properties roof. The heat is then transferred through a heat transfer fluid to the properties water which is then stored in a water tank.

A Solar Thermal System Will Reduce Your Energy Bills

By using the heat from the sun a solar thermal panel will heat household water throughout the day, providing up to 70% of your hot water. This reduces the requirement for a traditional oil or gas boiler to heat the water and therefore reduces your household energy bills.

Benefit from The Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP)

To encourage domestic property owners to install renewable heat technologies in their homes the government has launched the RHPP which is a one time payment towards the cost of the renewable heat system installation. This payment is £300 for any domestic solar thermal installation.

Make a Great Return on Your Investment Through The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

The Renewable Heat Incentive is a repayment scheme which pays the owners of renewable heat systems for generating clean, green heat energy. Owners are paid per kilowatt of energy they generate. The scheme is due to launch in spring 2014 and any system installed under the RHPP phase 1 and 2 will be eligible for the RHI payments. RHI payments are proposed to last for 7 years although the exact scheme details are still being finalised. The non-domestic renewable heat incentive is already live. If you are interested in a non-domestic renewable heat system please have a look at our commercial division.

An example of RHI payments and saving from a typical solar thermal system:

Estimated energy demand for 3-bedroom semi-detached house = 15,000 kWh per year with roughly 3,700kWhis for hot water heating.

A solar thermal system is estimated to produce 60% of the hot water = 2,200kWh

RHI = 17.3p per kWh paid for seven years.

2,200 x 17.3p = £380.60 per year
x 7 years = £2,664.20

The financial savings gained from a solar thermal system per year can vary depending on the fuel type it is replacing. Estimates for a 3 bedroom semi detached:

Replacing electricity: £280, LPG: £212, Oil: £147, Mains gas: £92. These figures are likely to increase as energy prices rise over the coming years making the savings even better.
