With all the talk of 43p and 21p you may have been left wondering if it was still worth installing a solar pv system as a financial investment. The answer to this question is yes. This time last year 4kW systems cost between £12 and £14k with a payback period of 8 - 10 years. The figures today are £8 - £10k for a 4kW system with similar payback periods due to the reduction in price of the system components, mainly the PV panels. The financial return is not as attractive at 21p as it was at 43p but a 4kW system will still generate an additional £17k once you have been paid back your initial investment.
For all eligible devices, the export payment is fixed at 3p per kWh. Depending on the size of your device, you may also need an export meter to measure how much electricity you sell back to the Electricity Network. If this is required, we'll contact you to arrange for an export meter to be fitted when we have received your application.
Even if your system was installed before April 2010, you may still be eligible for the Feed-In Tariff. Any systems installed between 15th July 2009 and 1st April 2010 will be eligible, provided they are registered with Renewable Obligation. Any systems that are registered will receive payments for this period (July 09 - April 2010) under the Renewable Obligation Certificate (ROCs) and will be automatically transferred over to the FiT as of April 2010 and the tariffs outline above will apply.
